Radon is a colorless, tasteless, no smell gas that has been known to cause cancer if consistently breathed at high levels. The radon comes from a break down in uranium decay which is in the soil. Leavenworth County and the surrounding area is known to have high levels of radon found in the basement of homes. The gas will usually creep up in the cracks of the concrete slabs. EPA reports that anything over .4 picocuries is harmful and a radon mitigation system should be installed in the home. The only way to test this is through laboratory testing which usually takes a few days to test.
